Last weekend we were hoping to take a trip into the mountains to play in the snow, however, California’s balmy weather the previous week quickly melted away that plan. So we decided to take advantage of the warm weather, and headed to the beach instead.

Kaleb seemed to enjoy the experience, and was fascinated with the feeling of sand in his toes. We didn’t try dipping him in the water which we figured was way to cold for him. When we got home, Kaleb crashed out for a few hours, waking up to take a couple of sips from his bottle before fading away into a deep long slumber for the rest of the night. Apparently a day at the beach can exhaust a four month old…it also gave his parents a night to relax as well.

Thank You Life Guards

Rescue Ready at Station 5

Now that “most” of summer is behind us here in Cali, I just wanted to give a shout out to all the life guards who spend their time watching out for us fools in the water. Without their tireless efforts, California’s beaches could be a much more dangerous place.

Stalking Dog Beach Goers

Before even setting my eyes on Dog’s Beach, I found this dog pacing back and forth, watching the action below. He almost looks like he is stalking his prey down on the beach.

Mission Beach Boardwalk at Night

Mission Beach Boardwalk

Mission Beach is one of those places I keep returning to, and each time, I see something different that inspires me to shoot. Long after the sun dropped below the horizon, the boardwalk was still populated with beach goers and tourists as I set my camera up on a tripod, zoomed my lens out to 200mm, and opened the shutter for several seconds to capture this image.

Gull Sunset

Every time I’ve gone to the beach, I’ve seen these guys milling about, and never paid them too much attention, unless they were lining up to bomb me like some strange Mel Brooks ‘The Birds’ parody. Luckily, I’ve only been hit a couple of times in my life, which is really saying something considering the number of times I’ve visited the beach. Anyway, here are a couple of images featuring sunsets, and seagulls.
