Highway 14 – Lucky Shot

Sunset, Truck, and Clouds

While travelling back from Red Rock Canyon yesterday, the sky decided it was time to splash some color on some clouds. I quickly grabbed my camera which was on the passenger seat, and snapped a shot, not worrying to much about compostion, correct focus, you know, the usual things a photographer would do if they weren’t barreling down the highway at 70mph (I was going a bit faster, shhhh, don’t tell my wife). I did see the truck as I raised the camera, but I didn’t think I actually got it in the frame. Anyway, here is today’s Favorite Foto Friday shot.

Birth of a New Addiction

Hello everyone, today’s Favorite Foto Friday is actually a time lapse video, my very first attempt. I’m not sure where this new venture is going to take me, other than a boat load of sleepless nights, and a lot of fun creating these. This is still rather crude, and needs a little work, but since this a learning experience for me, I am quite pleased with the results.

There was a time when I had this weekly thing called Favorite Foto Friday, things were going good, if not great, and all was right with the world. I’m not saying all is not right, at this moment, I AM saying that I got behind, then got lazy, then said, “To hell with it.”

Now I’m saying, “To hell with THAT laziness crap.” I’m jumping back into the driver’s seat again. I have a few weddings coming up that I am super excited about, and just came back from a mini photo tour of a few national parks that just so happen to sit in my extended back yard. I’m also looking forward to fall, and winter, my personal favorite time of the year.

I’m personally done with summer, and here is a fitting send off image.

I had an incredible photo shoot with three incredible models last Wednesday. We had the shoot at the Millennium Biltmore in Los Angeles, so I figured I would tease you with an image featuring these three beautiful girls. The day, and evening was filled with a lot of shooting, and some shenanigans to boot. Tune in soon for the full story.

A Favorite Haunt

Sun Burst Arch

It seems as though Vasquez Rocks is a favorite haunt of mine, well, actually, it’s close, easy to get to, and yes, it is a favorite haunt of my. Today’s Favorite Foto Friday is different…I found an arch.

My muse was definitely rocking it yesterday!

Off The Well-Beaten Path

In the Grass

I’m breaking the Favorite Foto Friday rule today because, well, I have a few favorite photos, five, actually. I am just on a cloud with my latest pictures. Not that they were spectacular, but because I managed to tie a couple of goals into one shoot. I also got a little walk

Yesterday I had some free play time, which turned out to be a great time for me to decompress from the every-day routine. I headed on over to Vasquez Rocks with two goals to accomplish, and that was to come back with at least 1 HDR image, and a few “different” images. That required a little bit of a hike, well, more like a stroll, with a lot of stops. The other goal required me be in the frame, that required me stepping in front of the lens. I have reached the height of my conceit…no, it’s not like that. Being a photographer means most of the time you don’t  have images of yourself. Family functions I am always taking the pictures, and I’ve always got to find different angles. I also hide behind that camera too. Besides, its good to step out there, and know what it’s like to have a camera pointed at you.

So, here is what I did in with my 2 3/4 hour visit. A fair amount of my hike was finding my way down to a ravine, running into a few quail, a lot of lizards, and a fair number of ankle high brush that made me regret wearing shorts. I know better than that, but I was determined to wear cargo shorts. I was also running some inexpensive running shoes. I marvel at how a thorny piece of grass, or strange cacti can find it’s way into your sock, and manage to travel to the bottom inside part of your foot. It doesn’t hurt, but it is annoying. I miss having combat boots, they were always great for these kinds of adventures.

Anyway, I got what I was shooting for, plus more, I hope you enjoy these images as much as I had creating them. Even the one where I almost broke the lens with my ugly mug.

Favorite Foto Friday

Untitled

Yes, I know today’s Favorite Foto Friday is a bit late, lets just say my blogging time last night was trumped by a not so happy child.

Anyway, here is another “Venetian” image peering out from the balcony. The distortion in this image is what makes it for me.
